We first saw Poutine from a recipe book that came with our Tefal Actifry. Whats not to love about Fries, Cheese and Brown Sauce? We had to try it! I did a little research and I found that this is a Canadian fast food Dish, originally from Quebec. This recipe is our take on the original recipe because there are some ingredients that are pretty difficult to find in Germany.
Poutine Recipe The fries are homemade from fresh potatoes using our ActiFry Low-Fat Healthy Multi-Cooker
, which was our wedding gift and is one of the coolest things we have! It basically deep fry without too much oil. We only used ONE given spoonful of Olive oil to fry our batch of fries. The other good thing about this equipment is that the kitchen does not smell of fats after using and cleaning is a breeze, well just putting it in the dishwasher. The fries were crispy on the outside but still soft on the inside!

Tefal Actifry

This time however we did not follow the recipe on the cookbook. Instead we did a little modification because cheese curd is not as readily available here so we used Mozzarella instead. Also instead of using beef stock we used chicken stock because we did not realise that we have already used up our beef stock a couple of weeks ago. Oh and bacon is not Classic poutine either. But it sure does fit the dish! Poutine Recipe

We had this for dinner. Serves 2 people as mains or 4 people as sides.

750g potatoes

10 slices of bacon

1 cup butter

1 cup flour, sifted

1 cup beef stock (we used Chicken stock as mentioned)

dash of pepper

200g Mozzarella

In a saucepan, over medium heat, combine the butter and flour. Stir until incorporated. Cook for 12 to 15 minutes for a dark roux. Stir in the stock. Season with pepper. Bring the liquid to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium low and continue cooking for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from the heat and keep warm.

Chop bacon and fry till crispy in a pan over medium high heat.

Prepare fries like how you normally would then season with salt and pepper.

To serve, mound the fries into individual bowls. Spoon the gravy over the fries, crumble the cheese and sprinkle bacon generously over the mixtures. Serve immediately.
